eyePilot FAQs

Does eyePilot work with Vista?
Not yet, but we are working on a fix. Please check back.
-
I started eyePilot and nothing changed on my computer screen.
eyePilot is an interactive program. It does not “fix” your computer so that you can see all colors (which is not possible), but rather eyePilot gives you a set of tools that you can use interactively to help understand different images. We suggest the best way to see how eyePilot works and learn how to use it is to watch the animated demo that you will find in eyePilot’s Help menu.
- Why can I not click through to the site underneath eyePilot?
The eyePilot window works by copying the image that lies beneath it and redisplaying it in the eyePilot “Capture Window”. In this way, eyePilot modifies the image your web browser or computer program is producing when you use the different eyePilot tools. The image you see in the Capture Window is therefore not “live,” and you cannot click through to operate the program or browser beneath.
To operate buttons or change web pages, you must first move the eyePilot out of the way by:
Windows:
-click and drag the eyePilot window, or,
-minimize the eyePilot window
Mac:
-click and drag the eyePilot window,
-hide eyePilot (Command-H or select “Hide eyePilot” from the eyePilot menu, or
-click the minimize button on the eyePilot frame
- In Windows, the eyePilot window border occasionally breaks up when moved.
Go to Control Panel. Select "Display." Select "Appearance." Select "Effects." Make sure the box next to "Show window contents while dragging" is checked. Press OK to return.
- When I use the Gray tool and click on an area of color, sometimes the selection gets all blotchy. What’s going on?
Sometimes an area of what looks like a solid color in a computer image is actually made up of a mix of colors. This is called “dithering.” Since the Gray tool isolates only one color at a time, it, can sometimes give blotchy results with a dithered image. Moving the slider control towards “Wide” can often help.
You can see if an area of an image is dithered by examining it with the Magnifier tool (press the Control key while your cursor is over the eyePilot window).

- In the Windows version of eyePilot, the RGB values that the Name tool gives me do not seem correct.
In some early versions of the Windows version of eyePilot, the Name tool was giving the Hue (HSL) values of a color clicked on, not the RGB values. To fix this, please download and re-install the latest version of eyePilot from colorhelper.com. The direct link is:

We have changed the system we use to register the purchased Windows version of eyePilot. After payment, you will now receive a serial number to enter into the eyePilot registration box. The serial number is case-sensitive.
NOTE: If you downloaded your trial version of eyePilot before 21 October 2006, you need to download and re-install the latest version from colorhelper.com before you can successfully register it.
The direct link is: http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/186228-GRBD/setup.exe
Before installing this file, you will need to remove the previously installed version of eyePilot from your computer. To do so, go to "Control Panel", click on "Add/Remove Programs", then look down the list for eyePilot and click on the "Remove" button. Then run the newly downloaded setup.exe to reinstall eyePilot.
